The Future of CHiPS
Our Five-Year Strategic Plan
Envisioning a future in which everyone can access healthy, nourishing food and safe, stable housing.
With the help of internal and external stakeholders, we developed a five-year strategic plan that will allow us to expand on and improve our services intentionally and effectively.
Expanding Our Pantry Program
In April 2026, we signed a lease on a new warehouse space in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and began the process of moving our pantry operation to the Navy Yard.
We expect the expansion to more than double our pantry operation from approximately 700 households per week to over 1,500 per week within the coming year, as well as allow us to deepen our commitment to serving all those who come to us with dignity, choice, and purpose.
Expansion FAQs
-
It most likely will not. We’ll still be welcoming the same number of volunteers at 200 4th Avenue. Some shifts, like pantry set-up, may change, but the meal and pantry bag distribution schedule won’t be changing, so we’ll still need plenty of volunteers to help us execute our services (in Park Slope and at the Navy Yard). And we’ll need more volunteers as we scale up our pantry programming!
-
The warehouse will be for storage of pantry goods. Our pantry program will now be entirely based out of Brooklyn Navy Yard. The meal program (breakfast, lunch and after hours sandwiches) and Frances Residence will remain at 200 4th Avenue.
-
No, our team at the Brooklyn Navy Yard will be receiving food deliveries, keeping inventory, and packing the vans to take pantry goods to mobile spots around Brooklyn. There will be no pantry or meal service directly from Brooklyn Navy Yard.
-
Yes! We’ll still be accepting food donations at 200 4th Avenue, Monday through Friday from 9am until 2pm. To coordinate, contact donations@chipsonline.org.
-
Yes. Volunteers assisting with pantry set-up will help receive and pack food at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Pantry Set-up volunteers will be expected to report to the warehouse for their shifts. Mobile Pantry Distribution volunteers will not be expected to report to the warehouse before their shifts and should meet at the pantry location they signed up for.
-
We will still be providing the same services from 200 4th Avenue: meals six days a week, pantry goods on Thursdays and Saturdays, and housing for women and their children. Additional space in the first floor of the building will allow for a more streamlined guest experience and a more organized volunteer experience. The space that has been operating as pantry good storage for the past few years will be freed up for food prep and donation sorting.
-
In order to scale up our pantry program, our 2026 budget is increasing by $600,000, bringing our total operating budget for the year to $3.6 million. Among other things, this will account for new hires, warehouse rental, truck costs, and increased food purchasing.
-
We expect to double our pantry output over the next year. We will likely be adding six additional pantry stops to our current six (CHiPS at 200 Fourth Avenue, PS 124, NYCHA Gowanus Houses, NYCHA Marcy Houses, Kensington Plaza, PS15 in Red Hook), and will scale up by adding one pantry stop at a time over the coming months.
